• Proposed Route
  • Study Segments
The proposed route and study segments presented on this map are those that were announced on January 3, 2018. Three areas have been identified where additional public input is needed before portions of the route are finalized. Ultimately, only one route will be selected as the proposed route from the windfarm to the endpoint of the line near Tulsa.

Wind Catcher Energy Connection

Public Service Company of Oklahoma (PSO) and Southwestern Electric Power Company (SWEPCO) are embarking on an unprecedented $4.5 billion renewable energy project to bring 2,000 megawatts (MW) of new wind energy to customers in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. The Wind Catcher Energy Connection project is expected to bring approximately $300 million to local communities in property taxes over the life of the project and provide a cost savings of $7 billion over 25 years for customers. The project will support approximately 4,000 direct and 4,400 indirect jobs annually during construction and 80 permanent jobs once operational.

The project includes acquiring a wind farm from Invenergy that is currently under construction in the Oklahoma Panhandle and building approximately 360-miles of dedicated extra high-voltage 765 kilovolt (kV) power line to connect two new substations, one located at the wind facility and a second near Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Development of the line route began in the summer of 2017. The overall project is expected to deliver wind energy to customers by the end of 2020.

Project Updates

January 2018

On January 3, 2018, a proposed line route was announced based on landowner and community input obtained at 11 open houses across northern Oklahoma in the fall of 2017. There are three areas along the proposed route where additional landowner and community input is being sought before making refinements to those areas. Three community open houses are scheduled for January.

The open houses will be set up as workshops so attendees can take their time and talk with project team members, review maps and provide comments. Comments can also be submitted here.
